KYAN Project Space is pleased to host the presentation of fall artist-in-residence, Luke Alex Atkinson.

Polykatoikia is a presentation of a new series of works Atkinson produced in Athens during September and October 2024. The artist drew inspiration from his direct surroundings in the studio, while spending time observing the various views of the neighboring buildings. The show is dedicated to the “Polykatoikia”, the Greek term for apartment building.

During the course of his residency the artist felt inspired by the Greek architectural format of this type of building, and was intrigued by the chaotic collage - like structural design of Athens. All the paintings are an homage to observational painting while also serving as a form of daily diary entries.
