WORMHOLE by Lena Brazin

KYAN Projects is pleased to present Wormhole, a solo show by summer 2022, artist in residence Lena Brazin. After working in the KYAN studio for two months, the majority of works she produced in Athens, became the main core of her current solo presentation. In this exhibition, Lena Brazin attempts to express an understanding of the contemporary self, full of paradoxes and different textures. By representing mixeddimensions of one’s life, through ordinary moments and mystical experiences, physical matter dissolves in the exposure of the ethereal and subconscious. In her paintings she explores the seen and unseen with an attempt to materialize immateriality, to reflect the fulness of human existence. She uses multiple layers of vibrant colors and bold brushwork to exaggerate the expressively narrated objects, subjects, and symbols fromher past and present life. Finding their way in the compositions, are Illusions, assumptions, smoking mirrors, fears, anxieties, addictions, detours, and desires that mislead otherwise clear trajectories. She focuses on the observation of the universal complexity of everyday existence including its metaphysical aspects; The exhibition spotlights the idea that the Unknown is awaiting, and the only thing we know is that we will come out of it transformed on the other side. By translating her existential questioning into painting matter, she reveals her vision of personal metamorphosis

Barba Dee Solo Show

For the first time the project space was utilized as a residency program. Between November 2021 to March 2022, the invited artist was provided with a free working space to enhance his artistic research, creative practice and produce a show within it.

The exhibition is a result of painterly patchwork the synthesis of which is based on the aesthetics of contemporary digital collages. The images that appear, either primary or secondary, aim to create a network of story telling and analysis on the contemporary Greek Identity. This collection of visual memoirs are symbols and graphic narratives that have been imprinted and are continuously reproduced in the every-day Greek subconscious.

Dionysus in 21’

The photographic group show “Dionysus in ‘21” collects works by 14 Greece based photographers that document instances of joy, community, sexual freedom and hedonism, with the condition that these were shot in the summer of 2021. As Greece went through a particularly strict lockdown during last winter and spring the longing for a summer that would resemble pre-covid times inevitably grew.

“Dionysus in ‘21” asks the photographers to make sense of their own feelings, experiences and expectations, and to deliver documentation of special moments from their months post-isolation. The result is an heterogenous portrait of contemporary Greek youth culture that composes of naked bodies under the sun, house party shenanigans and instances of queer intimacy.
